ここのとこオリジナル性の高い仕事絵が多かったので、ステッカーにアレンジしました。 

Since I've been doing a lot of highly original commissioned work lately, I adapted this into a sticker.

福岡市舞鶴のBAR、LEONEOさんに置いてもらった描き下ろしイラストです。お店の上空を描いていて、その真下に絵を置いてもらったという形です。

This is an original illustration commissioned for LEONEO, a bar in Maizuru, Fukuoka City. It depicts the sky above the bar, and the artwork was placed directly beneath that view.

I tried out a new approach to composition with this painting and placed it in a frame I made as a test.

「盆景」というのは、盆栽に似て、器やお盆の上にミニチュアの風景を作って鑑賞する伝統文化なのですが、江戸時代にはお手本としての版画があり、その平面と立体を行き来する感じや、厳密には大きさも定まらない（山より大きい器かもしれない）サイズ感が面白いと思ってイラストにしました。3枚描いたうちの3枚目は雪山です。

“Bonkei” is a traditional art form similar to bonsai, where miniature landscapes are created and displayed for appreciation in containers or on trays. During the Edo period, there were woodblock prints serving as models for this art. I found the feeling of moving between the flat and three-dimensional, along with the interesting sense of scale (the container might even be larger than the mountain depicted), intriguing, so I turned it into an illustration. This is the third of three paintings I created; the third one depicts a snow-capped mountain.

I found the feeling of moving between the flat and three-dimensional aspects, along with the interesting sense of scale—where the size isn't strictly defined (the container might even be larger than the mountain)—fascinating, so I illustrated it. The second of the three pieces I drew is a sudden “Planetary Exploration.”

I found the feeling of moving between two-dimensional and three-dimensional perspectives, along with the sense of scale that isn't strictly defined (the container might even be larger than the mountain), fascinating, so I illustrated it. The first of the three pieces I drew is a dragon.

元ネタは『正チャンの冒険』という古い漫画の表紙に描かれていた絵なんですが、それが気になって頭から離れなかったので取り出すために描きました。
黒い画用紙に描いています。

The original inspiration was an illustration on the cover of an old manga called “Syouchan's Adventure.” It stuck in my head and wouldn't leave me alone, so I drew this to get it out.

雪国の郵便配達は馬を使うという少しだけフィクションの入ったイラストです。
『チャーリー・ブラウンのクリスマス』の雰囲気が少しでも出ればいいなと思いつつ、流しながら描きました。

An illustration with a touch of fiction: mail delivery in a snowy country using horses.
I drew it while listening to music, hoping to capture at least a little of the atmosphere from A Charlie Brown Christmas.

思いつきの落書きから描きおこしました。これくらいのゆるいシャレも好みです。かなり早く描き終えられたのが嬉しかったです。

I developed this from a random doodle. I also like this kind of loose, playful humor. I was happy I finished it quite quickly.

タイムパトロールの聞き込み調査という設定です。キャラクターやデフォルメの練習というつもりで描いています。

The setting is an investigation by the Time Patrol. I drew it intending it as practice for characters and stylized forms.

和風だけどちょっとSFという感じです。画面を分割することで右と左で時空が違うかも？みたいな効果が出ないかな、などと、期待したりしました。

It's Japanese-style but with a slight sci-fi feel. I hoped that splitting the screen might create an effect where the right and left sides are different spacetime? Or something like that.

江戸時代をタイムマシンで抜け出す町娘二人、後ろからどうも新撰組っぽいのが追っかけてるから幕末の京都かな？という内容です。

Two town girls escaping the Edo period via time machine. From behind, something that looks like the Shinsengumi is chasing them, so maybe it's Kyoto during the Bakumatsu period? That's the idea.

猫が高いところから降りられなくなって…というよく見るニュースをSF仕立てにしました。細かい道具も考えないといけないので時間はかかるんですが楽しい作業です。

I turned the common news story about cats getting stuck high up into a sci-fi tale. It takes time since I have to think up all the little props, but it's a fun process.

スーパーで買い物してる場面に.ちょっとSFを…という趣旨です。ロボットに別のスナックを勧められています。SF風味のイラストを続けているので、デフォルメや影の付け方など試しながら描いています。カゴの中身は天ぷらの材料です。 

The idea was to add a bit of sci-fi to a scene of shopping at the supermarket. A robot is recommending a different snack. Since I'm continuing with sci-fi-flavored illustrations, I'm experimenting with stylization and shading techniques while drawing. The basket contains ingredients for tempura.

未来の身支度の様子で、一本で全部の色が選べるリップスティックと、ピアスが自作できるプリンター、髪はヘアプリントという女性です。ヘアプリントは実際に技術としてあることをニュースで知りました。

A woman getting ready for the future: a lipstick that offers every color in one tube, a printer to make your own piercings, and hair printed on her head. I learned about hair printing as an actual existing technology from the news.

懐かしい田舎の通学風景にSFをプラス、というものです。
オリジナルの乗り物を考えるのは楽しいのですが、見た人にも楽しんでもらえるかが気になります。

Adding sci-fi to a nostalgic rural commuting scene.
Coming up with original vehicles is fun, but I wonder if viewers will enjoy them too.

大きなコンサートでの演歌歌手と舞台装置、それだけではあるんですが、結構描くのが難しかったので自己満足度はかなり高い絵になりました。

It's just an enka singer and stage set at a big concert, but it was surprisingly difficult to draw, so I'm quite satisfied with how it turned out.

制作時の仮題は「クトゥルフ犯科帳」で、そのイメージから始めました。
相手は植物なのに刀を向けていて、でもその植物は少し奇妙な生え方をしている。という、ちょっと妙な絵に着地しました。

The working title during production was “Cthulhu Crime Log,” and I started from that image.
The subject is a plant, yet I'm pointing a sword at it—but that plant is growing in a slightly odd way. It ended up as a somewhat peculiar illustration.

映画などで登場人物が錯乱してしまい、全く合理的な行動ができなくなるシーンが好きで、その感情をイラストにしたくて描きました。いくつか思い浮かべる映画があるのですが、中心は『パンチドランク・ラブ』でアダム・サンドラーが悪漢から逃げるシーンです。とても惨めな場面だけど胸が熱くなります。

I love scenes in movies where characters become so distraught they can't act rationally at all. I wanted to capture that feeling in an illustration. Several films come to mind, but the core inspiration is the scene in Punch-Drunk Love where Adam Sandler flees from the thug. It's a terribly pathetic moment, yet it warms the heart.

アメリカのオタク文化を扱う『ビッグバン・セオリー』というアメリカのドラマにハマっていて、その影響で描きました。ジャックカービーというコミック作家の絵を参考にしています。

I'm hooked on "The Big Bang Theory," an American TV show about geek culture, and this drawing was influenced by that. I referenced artwork by Jack Kirby, the comic book artist.

春先、車の全く通っていない高速の下を走る車の幽霊という題材です。擬音はハングルで「ボボボボボボ」と描いています。 

The subject is the ghost of a car running beneath a highway with absolutely no traffic in early spring. The sound effect is written in Hangul as “Bobo Bobo Bobo.”

普通の静物画だけど、実は瞬間移動の瞬間、という絵です。いろんなシチュエーションで描けるなと思っています。

It looks like a normal still life, but it's actually the moment of teleportation. I think I could draw this in all sorts of different situations.

ウクライナ侵攻から数日経った3月1日、哲学者の東浩紀氏の「連帯の表明や寄付が昔より増えたのはいいことだが、逆にそれが考えたり理解することをやめる免罪符になってしまっているところがあり、それは良くない。」という発言にハッとしました。
連帯に賛同しますし寄付もしますが、何かをした気になってしまわないよう気に留めています。 

On March 1st, several days after the invasion of Ukraine, I was struck by philosopher Hiroki Azuma's statement: “While it's good that expressions of solidarity and donations have increased compared to the past, conversely, this has become a kind of license to stop thinking or trying to understand, and that's not good.”
I agree with the solidarity and I donate, but I make a point of being mindful not to fall into the trap of feeling like I've done enough.
